Presently, the spotlight in the realm of cinema belongs to two prominent films. ‘Gadar 2’, featuring the duo of Sunny Deol and Ameesha Patel, stands tall at the box office, as does ‘OMG 2’, starring the versatile Akshay Kumar, which has recently achieved the noteworthy milestone of crossing the 100 crore mark.

Amid this cinematic landscape, the film ‘Ghoomer’, starring Abhishek Bachchan and Saiyami Kher in leading roles, has entered the fray, hitting theaters just this past Friday.

Under the direction of R Balki, ‘Ghoomer’, a gripping sports drama, embarked on its cinematic journey with a modest initial showing, amassing Rs 85 lakh in its initial run. However, the weekend brought about a heartening surge, witnessing collections of Rs 1.1 crore on Saturday and Rs 1.5 crore on Sunday, as reported by Sacnilk, culminating in a total weekend collection of Rs 3.45 crore.

Alongside the talents of Abhishek and Saiyami, the film also boasts impactful performances by Shabana Azmi and Angad Bedi, with a notable cameo by Amitabh Bachchan.

In ‘Ghoomer’, Abhishek Bachchan essays the role of a coach, whose path intersects with a paraplegic athlete portrayed by Saiyami Kher. The narrative beautifully unfolds as the coach takes the athlete under his wing, guiding her to new heights. Remarkably, Abhishek Bachchan revealed that it was R Balki’s encouragement that prompted him to step into the role of a producer for ‘Ghoomer’.

During an interview with ETimes, he shared his thoughts, saying, “Balki entrusted me with a producer’s role in ‘Paa’. When he presented the core concept of ‘Ghoomer’, its uniqueness instantly struck me. More than that, the character I was set to portray intrigued me deeply. Paddy, the character, defies conventional coaching norms, and this intriguing dynamic piqued my interest.

Balki’s initial story outline was succinct, but as he delved into the essence of Paddy’s character, my fascination grew. The freshness and originality of the concept, along with the unexpectedness it held, captivated me. It veers away from the ordinary, and that’s what made it truly enjoyable.”

In essence, ‘Ghoomer’ emerges as a distinctive sports drama, displaying noteworthy growth at the box office during its opening weekend. The film’s distinct premise, brought to life by the directorial finesse of R Balki and the innovative coaching character portrayed by Abhishek Bachchan, has garnered attention and curiosity from discerning audiences.
